PROPER PAD BREAK-IN AND FINAL ROAD TEST

Understand the importance of properly breaking-in the friction material to the rotor and learn techniques for using an infra-red thermometer to determine if balanced braking effort is being applied.

The following reminders will help get the best installation results and minimize comebacks.




  • Rotors should be replaced or resurfaced with a fine, non directional finish.


  • Wash rotor with non-detergent (clear) liquid cleanser and warm water.


  • Do not touch or contaminate friction material.


  • Lubricate sliding surfaces, back of pad and both sides of clips.


  • Inspect components. Replace worn hardware, including pad installation clips.


  • Open bleeder and then compress piston. Do not hammer to set pads in place.


  • Torque lug nuts to manufacturer specifications using star pattern.


  • High-speed break-in is NOT recommended! 20 - 30 stops, 20 - 30 mph (32 - 48 kph) leaving 30 seconds between stops.


  • Check temperature of all four brakes to ensure balanced braking effort.
